When I first started playing The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past Randomizer, one of the biggest things I really struggled with was memorizing which items are needed for each dungeon. With the first randomizer tournament underway and due to the increasing popularity of the game and the influx of new players, I figured now was a good time to talk about the game and what is required for each dungeon.
So I guess the first question is, "What is LttP Randomizer?" Well, in the randomizer the basic structure (maps, dungeons, etc.) stays the same but all the items in the game have been shuffled to new places. In Version 8, boss hearts, NPC items, heart pieces, and chest items have also been shuffled. Prize packs for defeating enemies have been randomized as well and the objective of the randomizer is to beat Ganon as quickly as possible. What items do I need to beat the game?
Depending on the seed, the required dungeons will change as the crystals and pendants are randomized between dungeons. This is where careful planning and strategy is needed in order to avoid cases like this:
I have compiled a list of items required to full clear each dungeon. Please note that these items can also be found in the dungeons themselves, they just cannot be past the rooms that require them.
Eastern PalaceDesert PalaceTower of HeraHyrule Castle TowerPalace of darknessswamp palaceSkull woodsthieve's townice palacemisery Mireturtle rockganon's tower
Please note:
- Desert Palace can be entered 2 different ways so I have separated both access points in separate lists to indicate the items needed depending on which way you enter. - The medallions needed to enter both Turtle Rock and Misery Mire are randomized so the required medallion will be different in each seed. - Two items side by side separated by an "or" means you only need one of those two items to complete the dungeon.
In the future, I will be making an in depth guide for each dungeon, explaining how many chests and keys they contain, so please look forward to it. If there is anything I missed or that needs correcting, please leave a comment below.

Nice, I am looking to start trying this after I get the regular game down when my controller comes in. So this is pretty handy.

This guide is not what is needed to get to the dungeons. This guide is if you are in the dungeon, what do you need to complete it :) Hopefully that answers your question

The randomizer logic never requires passage through dark rooms. Therefore, I believe the lamp should be listed as requirements for Eastern Palace and Hyrule Castle Tower.

If you aren't in swordless mode, you need at least a sword Lvl 1 to complete the Hyrule Castle Tower, to cut the curtains.

You most definitely can. :) You would need dark world access of some kind of course but if you go into the woods using the entrance right by where the fortune teller would be if you were in the light world there are no skulls to pick up so you can walk right in

Is the map supposed to be numbered? I can't find the area in the game called flute spot. I assumed it was the area in the light world where you dig up to flute, but the item I was looking for (from spoilers) wasn't there. What area is this referring to? There are a lot of spots you can warp to with the flute as well. You may want to include glitched categories as well since you do not need the book, mirror, or titan's mitt to enter the dungeon. You can do a downwards teleport below the area by the race to get the heart piece. You also don't need the titan's mitt or medallion to enter Turtle Rock. If you do it the second way, you don't even need the hammer. You can either upwards teleport below the area where the pegs are for the dark world portal to barely land on the ledge above, skipping the need for titan's mitt. The second way is to use the mirror to the left of the breakable rock one screen west of the normal turtle rock entrance. All you do is line yourself up 1 tile to the left of where the _/– like slant is and touch the lower wall. Use the mirror and in the light world you should be at a ledge. Go to the ledge, but don't jump. Stand still and let the portal take you back. Simply hold down to jump and head through either door to enter turtle rock. This skips needing titan's mitt and hammer and the medallion. Maybe add a separate section to the right?

You need at least fighter sword to finish Skull woods. Cant enter the boss room without it unless running swordless category.

The book isnt needed in the randomizer if you have the moon pearl, titans mitt, ocarina and mirror.

The way it is indicated is not be clear, but under Desert Palace, you need at least one of the two rows of items. The second rows indicates your path : Flute, Titan's Mitt, Mirror, Boots and Lamp-igniting source.

Is there any way to modify settings for skipping dark areas where you have to guess the path because you see literally nothing?

Hey! You actually don't need the gloves because if you kill all the enemies in that room, it opens the side door for you to go around <3

Sorry, please ignore / delete my post. I am an idiot and missed that you can walk around the block via the left door. Allways thought it was a one-way-door :(

You are not an idiot and I know a lot of people who have made that mistake before. I'm going to leave the comment up because I know a lot of people might come here thinking the same thing so it will give them more information

Good list, thank you for putting it together for everyone's benefit. The only error I can see is that the red cane (cane of Somaria) is not required to clear Ice Palace.

You are correct that Cane of Somaria is not always required which is why I added the * note below it saying it's sometimes required. There are times when there's a small key on Kholdstare which would lock you out of doing it the normal way and at that point, it would logically require the cane of Somaria.
