Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Randomizer Overworld Item locations Guide

So you have decided to get into randomizer but have either never played or never 100%'d the original Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past game.  To be honest I hadn't either before playing my first randomizer.  In order to help everyone who is newer to the game, I have edited a couple of maps I had found for use on Ian-Albert.com in order to better assist everyone with finding every possible item location.  This map is only going to show you where they are however. I will be doing tutorial videos that I will be putting on my Youtube page if you wish to see how each item is accessible.

02/18/2018 - This Map was Updated Based on V29 Spoiler Log Coming out Soon

Thanks a ton! I've just finished my third seed with the help of this as a quick reference. Will keep using the location maps until I've got them fully hammered into my brain.

This is fantastic and is a huge help while I learn to play this randomizer. My latest seed hid the master sword upgrade in the cave to the north of the lumberjacks, but I have no idea how to get to it. None of the walkthroughs I've found for vanilla ALttP explain how to get there.

Thanks for the kind words! That location is actually a bit tricky to get to. In order to access it, you have to defeat Aganihm and then run into the tree that the lumberjacks were cutting in order to enter it through a secret way. The Lumberjacks leave once Aganihm is defeated allowing you to run into the tree with nothing blocking the way.

Oh duh! I've been trying to avoid having to do Aganihm in all my seeds wherever possible (been having bad luck getting the lantern) and just didn't even think about coming back to that tree! Thanks for that!

this is super helpful. Any chance you could edit in the vanilla game item in parenthesis? It would help me keep track of what is left to do when making a plandamizer.

Is there any way you could clarify that? Edit what in the vanilla game with parenthesis? If you mean edit every location there is in the vanilla game, they are all locations with items in the vanilla game. :) Hopefully that helps!

I think what they mean is on the annotation. Let's use sick kid as an example!

₹ is the modern rupee sign, in case it's not displaying properly.

In #2, #24, #52, with a second treasure after a slash, you get the latter item if you already have the former. (A fourth chest of this sort is also in Zelda's prison cell.)

Thank you so much! Flute kid had my bow and I completely forgot he had an item. Would you consider adding dungeon item counts, required items to check something (like you need a bottle to check sick kid), and if you add dungeons, special key locations (like when they are under a bottle or you have to kill a certain enemy)

P.s. you are my favorite commentator on randomizer tournaments

Thank you so much for this guide. For my current seed I was blocked without Mirror, Bow or Cane of Somaria, turns out I had checked every accessible location BUT the pyramid (since I didn't defeat Agahnim) ... your reference proved very useful.

This would be better if you put numbers on the map for item locations

There actually is numbers on the image if you clicked it and zoomed in to the locations. :) It's a fairly large image so if you don't click it, it can be hard to see.

It would be better if you looked at the material before commenting. It is all numbered.

I just started messing around with Randomizer after seeing the run in AGDQ 2018. These maps are very helpful, thank you!

What would be even more helpful is if your labels matched the names used in the spoilers file generated along with the ROM (from http://vt.alttp.run/). Many are the same, and some I've been able to figure out (their "Sunken Treasure" is your "Dam Pool"), but others are a mystery ("Cave 45" for example). Thanks again!

Cave 45 is the cave south of the Haunted Grove (#44 on this list)

Yeah, having Cave 45 at #44 is very awkward.

(According to randoguide's glossary, it's named such because it was #45 on the Ian-Albert map)

I think you forgot Link's Uncle in Light World Items.

Also, do you consider 3 items in Escape (from bombable door) to be in the Hyrule Castle dungeon or on the overworld?

The last 3 chests in escape are on the Dungeon Guide for Hyrule Castle and the Uncle was on here but listed as something else. Today we updated the maps based on the spoiler log coming out soon! Thank you again.

It is in the dark world by Misery Mire on the map. You have to Mirror to it.

I cant increase the size of the dark wold map though, seems like its just the small image uploaded (or a wrong link or something)

The Dark World Overworld map doesn't zoom like the light one does. Any way you can fix that? Great info here, thanks so much.

So just curious if you will be adding the 'shop' locations as well as they are VERY important in the new retro mode?(which I am currently failing miserably at XD)

This is awesome, thank you. I've recently gotten into playing randomizer after watching Ryukahr play one.

Could you add the number of chests in each dungeon, so it's easier to know when the rest is junk and you can leave?

If you are a poker chip collector, it is important to learn how to identify authentic casino poker chips. Not knowing what to look for and how to identify it can result in your losing hundreds, even thousands of dollars. This how-to guide is intended as a basic source of information on how you may accomplish this task.

I was wondering if you could give a list of all the items that could be on ped. I get confused with what ped can and can't be.

Could you tell me how many Chests are on each dungeon?

How do you get the item from the flute boy for number 60? When I visited him he was already a wooden statue but I don't recall getting anything from him. Otherwise I think I have an unbeatable seed. Trinexx has the power pendant and I don't have the Ice Rod. Those are the only two remaining items to find.

Is there a list of what's in all the chests? How many 1x, 5x and 20x rupees? How many 3x bombs & 10x arrows? ... etc etc ...

Hi. I'm brand new to the Gamez but my spouse has convinced me to watch a few randomizer tournaments and it is quite fun! He's a big Zelda fan and I had never played. I am currently playing for my first time (about 1/2 way through). It's way more difficult than the speed runners make it seem!

Anyway, posting because I enjoy the idea of randomizer style and am curious about giving it all a try. Therefore, I want to say thank you for posting this and your dungeon guide. Looking forward to more of your guides and hoping to hear you commentate at some point :)

Again, thank you for doing what you do!!!

Hi Sakura. I was wondering if there was a resourse which specified the required items to get to the different chests. For example, the Magic Mirror and the Book of Mudora for the item #29. Just for fun, I'm trying to create a path optimizer in python and this would be very convenient. Thank you in advance.
